Ben applying finish to a cutting board in his West Virginia shop

On the Ohio River, West Virginia

Heirloom hardwood, made one piece at a time.

Beauty hidden in plain sight. One man, one shop, on the banks of the Ohio River — milling rough-cut lumber I hand-pick myself into pieces meant to be handed down. Guaranteed for life.

Most imaginative creations

From solid walnut tables to a vertical chess board — each piece made one at a time.

Boards

I've been making cutting boards since I started woodworking — it's the first thing I teach. Face-grain, edge-grain, and end-grain, each with its own character and feel in the hand.

Crafts

The most fun part of what I do, and where I got started. Lately it's been everything from game boards to a dog staircase. I never know what somebody's going to ask me to make next.

Furniture

Making furniture is why I got into woodworking. There's no part of it I don't appreciate — the design, the milling, the finishing. Three separate disciplines, each with its own set of rules.

Ben Kiger — Owner & Woodworker

First-generation woodworker running a one-man shop on the banks of the Ohio River. Mills his own lumber from rough-cut stock and hand-picks every board. Mentored by master carpenter Tom Esham, whose lumber collection is the foundation of the shop.

Craftsmanship and customer service come easy in a small one-man shop. It's why I rarely take on more than one project at a time — each piece gets my full attention.
