I have spent my working life on this stretch of the river, and most of what I build stays close to home. Buying a piece from a local maker is different from ordering furniture online: you can see the wood before you commit, I can match a finish to a floor or a cabinet you already own, and a finished table arrives in the back of my truck rather than a freight terminal.
